In the initial wear-in period, grains pull-out caused by grain-boundary microcracking is the dominant wear mechanism of submicron grained alumina. In the case of alumina of large grain size, intergranular and transgranular fracture is the basic wear mechanism. As the sliding time increases, compaction of wear debris on sliding surface of fine and coarsen alumina determines the wear characteristics.”
“This study investigates how familiarity and initial contact with species can be explained by social-demographic
variables in an arid environment of Argentina. Our main objectives were to investigate which species children are familiar with, and analyse the effect of place of residence, sex and age on students’ knowledge and initial
this website contact with species. In total, 1746 students between 7 and 18 years old participated in the study, from 25 urban and 19 rural schools. Students were asked to write down ten animals and ten SN-38 datasheet plants, and to indicate where they had seen them for the first time. Children were able to name an important number of species but they were mostly acquainted with exotic ones. Familiarity with species and the use of different sources of information can be explained by interactions between the studied factors, while place of residence was not as significant as we expected. Sex was an important explanatory variable, likely influenced by differences in roles and children activities’ preferences. It is necessary to improve the knowledge on native species, particularly those with conservation problems by using information learn more sources close to nature, without neglecting the knowledge of the exotic species that children showed more familiarity from everyday life. “The proposition “This house agrees that the proper study of man is woman” was debated. For those negating the proposition, the alternative was that “animal models are useful in understanding the human feto-maternal relationship.” Evidence for the proposition emphasized molecular and structural differences between the human and animal placenta and placentation.
Evidence against the proposition and in favor of the alternative focused on functional and structural homologies, emphasizing that different molecules could be used in humans to achieve similar functional effects seen in animal (e.g., mouse) models. It was agreed that one always needed to test the validity of animal data by studying humans. The advantages and limitations of animal models were discussed. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. “Cadherins are cell surface adhesion proteins important for tissue development and integrity. Type I and type II, or classical, cadherins form adhesive dimers via an interface formed through the exchange, or ” swapping ”, of the N-terminal beta-strands from their membrane-distal EC1 domains.
