We investigated the factors contributing to COVID-19 vaccine refusal and the influence of expectations on vaccination acceptance for unvaccinated US adults aged 50 and over. Data was gathered via a repeated cross-sectional approach, employing a monthly sampling strategy from June 2021 to October 2021 on a cohort of 2116 individuals. When data availability is contingent on behavioral choices, selection bias modeling is necessary. This modeling predicts two outcomes: (1) vaccination status across the entire sample (no vaccination vs. vaccination) and (2) the impact of expectancy indices on vaccination acceptance or refusal amongst those who have not been vaccinated. A demographic profile of vaccine hesitancy revealed a tendency towards younger ages, lower levels of education, endorsement of common COVID-19 misconceptions, and a disproportionate representation of Black individuals. Anticipated outcomes of vaccination correlated with decisions not to vaccinate in the unvaccinated eligible population; negative expectations amplified vaccine refusal, while positive anticipations diminished it. The importance of behavior-related expectancies, as opposed to stable psychological traits, lies in their amenability to modification, providing intervention points not only for COVID-19 vaccination acceptance but also for a wider array of positive health behaviors.
Boosting physical activity in people living with Cystic Fibrosis (pwCF) can have a profoundly positive effect on their physical and mental well-being. Online engagement serves to boost physical activity amongst outpatient cystic fibrosis (CF) patients.
Online exercise and education sessions were piloted for PwCF within a large Scottish CF unit. The participants' opinions were voiced on motivation, fitness routines, preferred activities pre- and during the shielding phase, and the sought-after goals for online activities. Subsequently, a schedule of online exercises was compiled, including daily classes. Educational presentations, curated to meet patient needs related to health, well-being, and infection control, were offered throughout the pandemic and the introduction of modulator therapies. During the six-week pilot program, 28 exercise classes and 12 educational sessions were conducted, after which participants were sent a post-pilot questionnaire. Ensuring safe practice and accommodation for all levels of respiratory disease involved both risk assessment and adjustments to exercise routines.
A count of 26 people with chronic fatigue syndrome (pwCF) engaged in at least one exercise session, and an additional 37 pwCF attended one or more education sessions. The effectiveness of time management was significantly improved through group-based exercises and educational programs, compared to the standard face-to-face delivery method. Participants' motivation and perceived fitness levels saw increases as indicated by the post-pilot questionnaire, along with positive feedback about peer support and enhanced socialization opportunities. The study's focus was on characterizing the 24-hour movement patterns—sleep, sedentary behavior, and physical activity (PA)—in pediatric sports-related concussion (SRC) patients over their recovery period. A wrist-worn accelerometer was continuously worn by the 50 pediatric SRC patients in the cohort, throughout the duration of their recovery.
