The genus Eubacterium
comprises a nutritionally diverse group of organisms. The members of genus Eubacterium are known to produce butyrate [29], degrade flavonoids (from vegetables, fruits, nuts, and tea) [30] and are implicated in steroid and bile transformation in intestine [31]. The decrease in population of Eubacterium sp. observed in our study may reduce the butyrate production and may also affect the capacity of the host in proper digestion of the above ingredients of food. Bifidobacterium species see more are common inhabitants of the gastrointestinal tract, and they have received special attention because of their health-promoting effects in humans. Members of Bifidobacteria produce enough acetate (SCFA) in proximal and distal colon by fermentation of glucose and fructose [32]. Members of both Bifidobacteria and Ruminococcus -Ruminococcus torques and Bifidobacterium bifidum are thought to ferment mucin and compete to colonise this substrate for their energy source [33].
